SACRAMENTO — Californians who want to swap their structured settlements for quick cash already need a judge’s OK.
But some trial lawyers say those annuitants need a lot more from the law. Their lobby, the Consumer Attorneys of California, is pushing legislation that would expand the state’s Structured Settlement Protection Act to require a court to weigh a new range of factors before deciding whether a cash-out is in the potential payee’s best interests.
