SAN FRANCISCO — In the federal prosecution of LCD flat-panel manufacturers, defense lawyers have believed for months that Samsung has received amnesty from the government for being the first to cooperate.

That rumor became an on-the-record allegation Friday, when plaintiffs in the ongoing civil price-fixing suit against the manufacturers asked a federal judge to force Samsung to reveal itself and cooperate with them.
