SACRAMENTO — Even as the Administrative Office of the Courts on Tuesday pushed its proposal to close state courthouses one day a month, a group of judges worked to block the plan.

Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Maryanne Gilliard said that at least three-quarters of her 55 colleagues on the local bench have signed a petition urging judicial leaders to keep courtrooms open. The petition has been circulated among judges in other counties, although Gilliard could not immediately say where.
