Attorney General Bill Lockyer announced that he would not take the prosecution of an accused cop killer away from San Francisco DA Kamala Harris, because she had not abused her discretion by seeking life in prison for defendant David Hill. “If I were making an independent decision, it would be different from hers,” Lockyer said, adding that he believed he could find 12 San Franciscans who would return a death verdict.

A month after divorcing their former partners, William Lerach and his West Coast colleagues tied the knot with another plaintiffs firm. Lerach Coughlin Stoia & Robbins announced it had hooked up with Florida-based Geller Rudman. The combined firm would be called Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins. “We were constantly interacting with each other,” Lerach said. “I don’t know who winked or popped the question first.”
