San Francisco’s Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass has sent its second civil litigator to the U.S. Department of Justice since Barack Obama took office.

Longtime Coblentz partner William Orrick III has taken over as counselor to the assistant attorney general for the Justice Department’s civil division — that is, to Tony West, a former Morrison & Foerster partner in San Francisco. His father, William Orrick Jr., a federal judge in the Northern District of California who died in 2003 , ran the civil division in the Kennedy administration.
