SAN FRANCISCO — State prosecutors dismissed a 1970s-era murder case against four alleged black militantsMonday in exchange for a relatively light plea deal with a fifth man, leaving both defense attorneys and prosecutors framing the result as a victory.

Doors to the courtroom in San Francisco’s Hall of Justice were closed for hours as defense lawyers and prosecutors met with retired Judge Philip Moscone on Monday morning, the day that the preliminary hearing for the “San Francisco Eight” was set to begin.
