SAN FRANCISCO — Members of the Service Employees International Union, Local 521 — mostly from Santa Clara, San Benito, Kern and Los Angeles counties — picketed in front of the Administrative Office of the Courts offices in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Courts statewide were shut to the public for the day as part of a plan to cut back spending in the wake of $414 million in budget cuts for the judicial branch. The cost-cutting plan calls for closing all state courts on the third Wednesday of each month from now through at least June.
