A federal jury convicted former San Francisco plaintiff attorney Nikolai Tehin on 15 counts of fraud and money laundering. Assistant U.S. Attorney Miles Ehrlich said Tehin had stolen $2 million in client funds to pay for a lavish lifestyle. About a dozen former clients testified against him.

The title of chief marketing officer used to be found at only the very largest of law firms, but the trend was catching on elsewhere. Last year, the 138-lawyer Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk & Rabkin hired its first CMO, Mehul Patel, a former Cooley Godward associate and business development manager at CNET Networks Inc. Increasingly, firms were looking for marketing talent beyond the legal world, and salaries at Am Law 100 firms were edging up from $200,000 to $300,000 a couple of years ago to $400,000 to $500,000.
