SAN FRANCISCO — Heller Ehrman’s leaders discussed the firm’s “mortality” while assuring partners it was sound, and recruited more than five merger candidates by early 2008, including Mintz Levin, according to confidential creditors’ exhibits in bankruptcy mediation talks.
