The Fifth Appellate District affirmed an order. The court held that because the trial court had properly advised a defendant of the alien status consequences of his guilty pleas, his challenge to the pleas under Penal Code §1016.5 on the ground that his counsel was ineffective for failing to advise him of those consequences was meritless.

In 1988, Jaime Limon pleaded guilty to cultivation and sale of marijuana in two municipal court cases. The negotiated dispositions were approved in one hearing and sentencing for both cases was held at one time. Limon appeared at sentencing with his attorney and agreed to accept a maximum one-year sentence. The trial court suspended imposition of sentence, admitted Limon to probation for five years, and ordered him to serve one year in the county jail.
