The Callifornia Supreme Court affirmed a judgment. The court held that a minor’s request to talk to his father did not constitute an invocation of his Fifth Amendment rights and did not warrant terminating his interrogation.

Sixteen-year old Tony Lessie was arrested in connection with a homicide. The arresting officer told Lessie at the scene that he would be able to make unlimited telephone calls when they got to the police station. The officer also asked him if anyone needed notification of his arrest. Lessie replied that his father should be notified. Lessie did not have his number with him.
