The Fifth Appellate District reversed a judgment. In the published portion of its opinion, the court held that a party had 180 days to timely file a notice of appeal from a judgment where notice of entry of the judgment was mailed to it by the opposing party, but was unaccompanied by a proof of service.

Mohani Thiara and others claimed to be members of Pacific Coast Khalsa Diwan Society, a nonprofit religious corporation (the temple). Thiara and the others sought a writ of mandate compelling the temple and its officers to permit them to inspect the corporation’s membership list, books, and records.
