In Washington and the world, the range of issues that interest Microsoft Corp. is huge. Pamela Passman, Microsoft’s deputy general counsel of global corporate affairs, watches over many of them.

An alumna of Covington & Burling, Passman is one of the most senior lawyers in the 1,000-person legal department, which boasts 400 lawyers in 44 countries and a budget of $800 million. From cyberattacks in China to health care IT to managing Microsoft’s roster of outside law firms, Passman shared her insights with associate editor Carrie Levine and senior reporter Jenna Greene of Recorder affiliate The National Law Journal in a wide-ranging conversation at Microsoft’s Eye Street offices in downtown Washington last week.
