SACRAMENTO — Some days she’s a Sacramento hypocrite. Sometimes she’s a sketchy margarine brand. Recently, she was a shark.

The political portrayal of Betsy Butler is an almost daily issue for voters in California’s 53rd Assembly District. Opponents of the Democratic candidate have flooded district mailboxes, e-mail recipients and cable TV airwaves with ads blasting Butler — frequently for her previous work as a fundraiser for the state trial lawyer lobby. (The margarine mailer suggested she is less than genuine about her views.)
