SACRAMENTO — Attorney General candidate Kamala Harris on Tuesday announced the filing of a campaign finance complaint against Democratic competitor Chris Kelly in connection with the former Facebook executive’s sale of pre-IPO shares.
A private equity firm’s loan of more than $100,000 to Kelly so he could exercise his stock options amounted to an illegal campaign contribution, Harris’ attorney said in a letter filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission. The complaint also accuses Kelly of failing to report the names of those who bought his Facebook stock, and how much they paid for it, in state disclosure forms.
