SACRAMENTO — James Ardaiz, presiding justice of California’s Fifth District Court of Appeal in Fresno, announced Tuesday that he will retire when his term ends later his year.

Elected to the Fresno County Municipal Court in 1980, Ardaiz was elevated to the Superior Court by Gov. George Deukmejian in 1984. Four years later Deukmejian named him to the appellate court bench in Fresno.
