The California Supreme Court affirmed a judgment of conviction and penalty. The court held that the record failed to show that the defendant’s inculpatory statements were the product of either Miranda violations or improper police tactics.

Joanne Lacey was burned to death in her car following an apparent kidnapping and robbery. The car was a blue Volvo. Marks on the car indicated it had been in a collision with a red car prior to the fire. An informant led police to an accomplice, who, in turn, identified David Williams as the killer. Williams was arrested driving a red car.
