SAN FRANCISCO — Attorneys from Davis Polk & Wardwell in Menlo Park helped VNUS Medical Technologies Inc. win a $46 million jury verdict in federal court against two companies for infringing its patents for eliminating varicose veins using lasers.
After a five-week trial and four days of deliberation, a federal jury in San Francisco earlier this month ordered Total Vein Solutions to pay $36.5 million and Biolitec, a laser maker in Germany, $9.34 million. The dispute was over a nonsurgical procedure called endovenous laser ablation.
