SAN FRANCISCO — Even after President Obama’s two most controversial California judicial picks were edged out of a confirmation deal, supporters of Edward Chen and Goodwin Liu remain hopeful the pair will have a chance in the new year.

U.S. Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein continue to back their picks for the federal bench, and groups that have actively supported their nomination aren’t wavering.
