The court of appeals affirmed orders of the district court. The court held that a regulation interpreting the Americans with Disability Act properly required that a professional licensing entity administer a licensing examination so as to best ensure that the exam results reflect the prospective licensee’s aptitude rather than her disabilities.

Stephanie Enyart, a legally blind law school graduate, sought to take the California Bar Exam using a computer equipped with assistive technology software known as JAWS and ZoomText. JAWS is an assistive screen reader program that reads aloud text on a computer screen. ZoomText is a screen magnification program that allows the user to adjust the font, size, and color of text and to control a high-visibility cursor.
