SAN FRANCISCO — California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno has given Gov. Jerry Brown his letter of resignation from the court, effective Feb. 28.

“I’ve been on the court 24 years, and over nine years on the Supreme Court,” Moreno said over the phone from Los Angeles this morning. “The time was ripe for me to seek a new direction.”
