The Second Appellate District affirmed an order. The court held that substantial evidence supported denial of class certification in an action by employees against their former employers for violation of statutes related to meal periods, rest breaks, and pay stubs.

Kevin Tien, Carole McDonough, and Julia Strain were hourly employees of Tenet Healthcare Corporation or of one of its subsidiaries (collectively, Tenet) in hospitals throughout California. Tien, McDonough, and Strain (collectively, Tien) sued Tenet on their own behalf and as class representatives for all others similarly situated, alleging that Tenet had not paid them and other class members legally mandated additional wages for missed meal periods and rest breaks.
