SACRAMENTO One week after the state auditor issued a scathing critique of judicial branch management, a leading lawmaker has introduced legislation that would dramatically alter the judiciary’s governance structure.
Assembly Majority Leader Charles Calderon, D-Montebello, will carry the Trial Court Rights Act, a bill generated by the Alliance of California Judges. If enacted, the measure would chip away at many of the centralized functions of the branch’s bureaucracy as envisioned by former Chief Justice Ronald George.
