Petco Animal Supplies Stores is the nation’s second-largest retailer of specialty pet supplies (behind PetSmart). Petco operates more than 1,000 stores in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In 2006 Texas Pacific Group and Leonard Green & Partners took Petco private in a deal worth more than $1.6 billion.

Darragh Davis, 55, is vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Petco. She is a second-generation attorney, the daughter of a lawyer at the State Department in Washington, D.C. — “I grew up in the atmosphere, if you will.” Her career choice was sealed in boarding school in Connecticut when she took her first constitutional law class. She would complete her undergraduate degree with honors at Stanford University in 1977 with dual majors in psychology and political science, and graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1980.
