A joint legislative committee late Thursday voted to place the judiciary under the jurisdiction of California’s Public Contract Code, a move that reflects lawmakers’ increasing scrutiny of the judicial branch’s spending decisions.
The voluminous code includes detailed rules for state agencies seeking to contract for services and to buy high-ticket items. The judicial branch, as a separate branch of government, has traditionally been exempt.
