SAN FRANCISCO — Northern District U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag has tapped a prosecutor with strong ties to Washington and a sparkling reputation in the Bay Area to lead the newly formed Special Prosecutions and National Security Section, lawyers familiar with the assignment say.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Candace Kelly, a Janet Reno protégé who is currently on detail with the FBI, is expected to return to San Francisco in June.
