SAN FRANCISCO — Brian Smith, a longtime Heller Ehrman partner in San Francisco who most recently headed Goodwin Procter’s London office, died suddenly on March 2 after suffering a brain hemorrhage. He was 60.

Smith, a real estate and hospitality lawyer who started his career at San Francisco’s Pettit & Martin, was described by friends and colleagues as a Renaissance man. In law practice, he specialized in cross-border transactions for hotels. Among his best-known clients were the Four Seasons and the Fairmont Raffles chain, according to Goodwin Chairwoman Regina Pisa. “He did deals for them all over the world,” Pisa said.
