SAN FRANCISCO — Attorneys from Cooley in San Francisco and Palo Alto are defending Facebook Inc. in two patent suits filed in federal court this week.

On March 15, Unified Messaging Solutions, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corp., sued several companies, including Facebook Inc., LinkedIn Corp. and Research In Motion, in the Eastern District of Texas, alleging they had infringed several of its patents related to delivering and managing online messages.
