Former Chief Justice Ronald George once said he considered any effort to democratize selection of Judicial Council members an act of war. For new Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, that just might be an opening act.

In an interview this week, Cantil-Sakauye said she’s open to reshaping the council, including possibly allowing judges to elect some of their peers to the council.
