SACRAMENTO — Faced with criticism that the Administrative Office of the Courts is a bloated bureaucracy, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye has turned to a familiar method in the judiciary for her response: She’s forming a committee.

Cantil-Sakauye today unveiled the membership of the new 14-member Strategic Evaluation Committee, which the chief justice charged with making “findings and recommendations to improve the efficiency of the AOC.” Arthur Scotland, the retired presiding justice of the Third District Court of Appeal — where Cantil-Sakauye served before being named chief justice — will chair the new committee.
