SACRAMENTO — The buzz surrounding the judicial branch’s hiring of two unlicensed contractors to maintain state courthouses had pretty much ebbed after a legislative oversight hearing ended last summer. But the state may be turning up the heat again.

A spokeswoman for the Contractors State License Board said the agency has launched an investigation into the Administrative Office of the Courts’ use of unlicensed contractors. Melanie Bedwell said state law prevents the board from identifying any individual under investigation. But the review presumably includes Aleut Global Solutions and Jacobs Facilities, the two companies sued by the AOC in 2009 for breach of contract.
