SAN FRANCISCO — Whether the economy is humming or in the dumps, Shartsis Friese can count on deals to roll in from Waste Connections Inc., a longtime client in the garbage collection business.

This spring, the Folsom-based waste management company made its first foray into the American Northeast with its acquisition of Hudson Valley Waste Holding Inc., and a wholly owned subsidiary, County Waste and Recycling Service Inc. The deal value was kept under wraps, but Shartsis corporate partner Derek Wilson said Waste Connections paid well north of Hudson’s $120 million in annual revenues. In a separate deal, Waste Connections also raised about $250 million by selling senior unsecured notes in a private placement. Both transactions closed April 1.
