SACRAMENTO — In the wake of questions raised over costly plans for a major courthouse construction program, the Administrative Office of the Courts announced publicly today that it is reconsidering the size and location of a new court in the tiny Alpine County town of Markleeville.

Original plans for the single-courtroom courthouse called for a 15,000 square-foot, $26.3 million building to replace the historic facility on Highway 89. Now the AOC says it may instead renovate the much smaller existing structure, which was originally built in 1928 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
