SAN FRANCISCO — The California Supreme Court today agreed to review a case in which a hospital was able to duck a $96 million jury award for a newborn’s devastating brain injury.

After Aidan Ming-Ho Leung suffered irreversible brain damage from kernicterus, a condition caused by excessive jaundice, his family sued his pediatrician, Steven Nishibayashi as well as the hospital.
