SAN FRANCISCO — Political heavyweights Willie Brown and John Burton today asked the California Supreme Court to take a look at a civil suit against the state for negligently releasing a prison inmate on the wrong day.

Brown and Burton filed a brief supporting the petition for review, arguing that the appeal court holding that shot down the plaintiffs’ appeal “flies in the face of common sense.”
