Matthew Bartus has joined Cooley as a partner in its Palo Alto office. Bartus, who was previously with Dorsey & Whitney, focuses on representing emerging growth companies from startup to acquisition or IPO. He graduated from New York University School of Law in 1998.

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear has added Scott Smith as a partner in the firm’s new Silicon Valley office, which opens in September. Smith, who focuses on medical device counseling, previously served as vice president, intellectual property and legal affairs at Pulmonx, a medical device company. He is a 1994 graduate of Ohio State University College of Law.
