After six hours of debate, the Judicial Council today hewed to a pre-planned road map for how to absorb $350 million in cuts to the judicial branch, despite an effort by two Los Angeles members to cushion the blow to strapped trial courts.

Most of the council agreed with recommendations from a working group of judges and court administrators that were released last week and that will mean a 6.7 percent cut to trial courts this year. As part of the plan, the council agreed to suspend work on the controversial Court Case Management System for one year.
