The First Appellate District affirmed in part and reversed in part an order and remanded. In the published portion of its opinion, the court held that a mother who faced loss of custody of her child did not have a due process right to appointed counsel in guardianship proceedings.

L.B.’s daughter H.C. was sixteen. Since birth, H.C.’s brother Z.B., sixteen years her senior, had been a father figure to H.C. Z.B. became concerned about H.C. based on H.C.’s plummeting academic performance, her smoking marijuana, as well as her stealing condoms and skipping school. Z.B. and his wife, Heather B., tried to arrange for H.C. to spend a semester with them, but L.B. would not permit it.
