The California Supreme Court affirmed a judgment of conviction and sentence of death. The court held, among other things, that missing money and the scattering of the victim’s belongings supported a special circumstance finding of robbery-murder.

Fourteen-year old Laurie Farkas and 15-year old Angie Higgins went to the movies together. Finding they had arrived too early, they accepted a ride from 27-year old Royal Clark to a nearby fast food restaurant. They both knew Clark. Both Farkas and Higgins bought food at the restaurant. The girls paid for their food separately, and each girl put the change from her purchase in her front pants pocket. Clark did not buy anything, saying he had no money.
