SACRAMENTO — Somewhere between the exhibition hall’s swag peddlers and the greasy-pizza vendor, a delicious rumor sprouted at last weekend’s State Bar convention in Long Beach: Freshly minted Bar President Jon Streeter, no fan of governance changes included in his organization’s annual dues legislation, was working behind the scenes to get Gov. Jerry Brown to veto the bill.

On its face, the notion seemed crazy. Why would Streeter launch his presidency by lobbying to kill legislation, SB 163, that provides the Bar its annual allowance?
