The forced departure of Tiela Chalmers from the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program made headlines last spring. But it was only one part of a leadership and organizational overhaul BASF has undertaken at the storied pro bono provider.

The bar has set three-year term limits on the VLSP board of directors, which has meant the departure of some longtime directors, including Christopher Emley, who will leave at year’s end after more than 20 years of service. BASF also is merging the boards of VLSP and the BASF Foundation, the bar’s charitable arm, with BASF Executive Director Daniel Burkhardt running the combined entity. BASF is in the market for a pro bono administrator who will report to Burkhardt.
