The announcement about Pillsbury conducting off-site business in the near future (“Pillsbury Joins Off-Siting Trend, Moves Staff to Nashville,” Oct. 18) sent an avalanche of emails across the nation. Doesn’t [Pillsbury Chairman James] Rishwain consider that entire families are torn apart; kids have to leave their schools, piano teachers, sports activities, churches; many employees will have to leave their homes and elderly parents, etc. What is he thinking? Pillsbury has not suffered any monetary losses during the entire three-year recession. Only a greedy bunch at the top made this vicious, unconscionable decision. They don’t care about the people who faithfully served them for many years to get them to the top. Without them, they would still answer interrogatories. All Mr. Rishwain, Pillsbury’s “chief visionary, decision maker,” as he calls himself, has to do is move himself to Nashville. His salary, excluding his bonus, would cover the earnings of the 150 employees he intends to uproot. He could easily conduct his business, such as getting Pillsbury’s employees out of the way, from Nashville. He would be so much happier there.
