SAN FRANCISCO — New U.S. District Judge Edward Chen has dismissed a class action against Yelp Inc. alleging the online review site extorted advertising from businesses in exchange for favorable treatment.
In dismissing the suit with prejudice Wednesday, Chen found that Yelp is immune, under the Communications Decency Act, from claims that it manipulated reviews, regardless of its alleged motives when publishing and removing reviews from the site.
