As general counsel at Standard Pacific Capital, Karl Cole-Frieman was frequently looking for boutique law firms to farm out his matters to. He says that, like his in-house peers in the fund industry, he faced a vacuum.

“Among lawyers who work with hedge funds, there was a huge gap between the elite firm lawyers and on the boutique side, people who could do small-fund launches,” Cole-Frieman said.
