SAN FRANCISCO — Owners of a local chain of vegan raw food restaurants say disgruntled former employees have ruined them with meritless wage-and-hour suits, forcing them to close their popular business. But plaintiff lawyers say the owners are trying to bully the victims and hoodwink the public with a bogus PR campaign.

Although the lawyer for the plaintiffs claims that Matthew and Terces Engelhart, owners of Cafe Gratitude, are “wildly rich,” the couple counter that the tens of thousands of dollars they’ve paid to Littler Mendelson has dried up cash flow and forced them to put their Northern California locations up for sale.
