SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Dombrink, retired Alameda County Superior Court judge, died on Dec. 3 after a long battle with cancer. He was 67.

Dombrink retired from the court last year, 14 years after he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow. Prior to his 20-year tenure on the bench, which included a term as presiding judge of Alameda County Municipal Court, Dombrink was a solo practitioner. Before striking out on his own, he was a name partner at Chandler, Bruner and Dombrink in Oakland for about a decade. Former partner Stephen Chandler said Dombrink had left his insurance defense job at Crosby Heafey to join the firm in part because he wanted to have time to represent “regular people” pro bono.
