Six new lawyer representatives have been selected for the Ninth Circuit Judicial Council: Peter Axelrod of the Northern District U.S. attorney’s office; Sonia Martin, SNR Denton partner; Julia Sherwin of Haddad & Sherwin in Oakland; Bijal Vakil, White & Case partner in Palo Alto; Gail Shifman of Law Offices of Gail Shifman; and Richard Tamor of Tamor & Tamor. They will serve for three years.

Winston & Strawn has announced four 2012 Diversity Scholarship recipients, two of whom are in California: Randi Rader and Douglas Hewlett Jr. The recipients are second-year law students who will be summer associates at the firm in 2012 and receive $10,000 during their third year of law school. Rader, a UC-Berkeley School of Law student, will work in the firm’s San Francisco office. Hewlett, who is at University of Southern California Law School, will work in Winston’s Los Angeles office.
