The University of California’s 10 campuses have an enrollment of more than 220,000 students and employ more than 180,000 faculty and staff. The university was founded in 1868 and today operates campuses in Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara. It also operates five medical centers and three U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories. Beyond that, the UC system serves more than a half-million people through UC Extension’s continuing education coursework and its Cooperative Extension’s agricultural programs around the state.

THE SHORT BIO

Charles Robinson, 54, became the university’s vice president and general counsel in 2007. His staff of 80 is spread between Berkeley and each of the individual campuses.
