Latham & Watkins corporate partner Nicholas O’Keefe had never thought about working in the Middle East when the firm asked him to help open three offices in the region in 2008. Then he did some research into the region’s booming economy, and decided it was time to build a global practice. But things didn’t turn out exactly as planned after he arrived in Dubai, thanks to the global economic crisis. Now back in Silicon Valley, O’Keefe recently talked with The Recorder about how his practice weathered the economic uncertainty, and the challenges he faced putting together multibillion-dollar deals in the Middle East.
