In August, a jury returned a $310 million verdict in litigation over the Bratz doll. A month later, an L.A. hedge fund manager won $60 million in his still-unfinished feud with the hedge fund he left to start his own firm.

And on Friday, in a Santa Clara County case that can be seen as the MGA Entertainment Inc. case in miniature — it even featured an MGA lawyer, albeit on the other side — a jury awarded just $1 in damages to bike manufacturer Specialized Inc. in a case it brought against two former employees.
